Latvian and Scandinavian Contemporary Spiritual Music Concert

Choir Games

The spiritual and secular music of contemporary composers will be the focus of a high-level musical performance in Riga Dome Cathedral on July 18, 22:00 h. “NORTHERN LIGHTS” is the bright title of this concert featuring music from Nordic Europe.

The concert will be part of the Grand Prix of Nations Riga 2017 & 3rd European Choir Games and presents works by Ola Gjeilo, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Rihards Dubra and other Scandinavian and Latvian composers. A highlight will be the premiere of a new work for boys’ choirs which was especially composed by one of the best known contemporary Latvian composers, Uģis Prauliņš for this concert.

Performing artists will be the Rīga Cathedral Boys’ Choir, the Jāzeps Mediņš School of Music Boys’ Choir, the Örebro Chamber Choir (Sweden), the Nordic Voices vocal group (Norway) and organist Iveta Apkalna.

Artistic Director of the concert is Latvian conductor Romāns Vanags, its director is Uģis Brikmanis. Tickets for this special concert can be purchased online.
