I spent fantastic days in Calella and felt very welcome in the big INTERKULTUR family. Congratulations on the great job you’ve done! I’m very satisfied with my first INTERKULTUR experience and I hope it won’t be the last.
SING FOR GOLD
SING FOR GOLD – The World Choral Cup goes to Latvia
SING FOR GOLD arrives in the "Singing Nation." Following three successful editions in Spain, the renowned international choir event expands to Latvia. SING FOR GOLD Riga 2027 connects a proven competition concept with one of Europe’s most vibrant choral cultures, welcoming choirs from around the world to Riga.
Riga has hosted some of the most important international choral events, including the World Choir Games 2014, the European Choir Games & Grand Prix of Nations 2017, and the competition RIGA SINGS. These milestones established the city as a respected stage for choirs seeking artistic exchange, inspiring performances, and encounters with Latvia's rich musical heritage.
SING FOR GOLD offers choirs a motivating competition format. Ensembles perform for medals, contribute to the INTERKULTUR World Rankings, and compete for the World Choral Cup. A special highlight is the Imants Kokars Choral Award, a Special Prize honoring the legendary Latvian conductor and educator who shaped the country's choral tradition and inspired generations of singers.
The Imants Kokars Choral Award recognizes the best interpretation of a work by a Latvian composer such as Ēriks Ešenvalds, Pēteris Vasks, or Rihards Dubra. The prize celebrates artistic excellence and engagement with Latvia's choral repertoire and includes a €1000 award, encouraging choirs to bring this remarkable musical tradition to life on stage.
Participation Opportunities
SING FOR GOLD invites all non-professional choirs of the world to participate in 7 different competition categories. The choirs will be evaluated by an international jury according to the MUSICA MUNDI evaluation system (30 points system) and receive gold, silver or bronze diplomas.
The best choirs are invited to compete in a final round of competition for the WORLD CHORAL CUP.
Choirs who choose not to be placed in competition, but seek to be part of the international experience can participate in the non-competitive evaluation activities.
