From the Golden Gate Bridge to Monterey

Golden Gate Men's Chorus is one of the participating choirs

Golden State Choral Trophy

In approximately 2 months, from November 20 to 24, 2016, a total of 17 choirs from Afghanistan, Croatia, the Philippines, Poland and from the US will travel to Monterey / San FransiscoFrancisco in sunny California to sing for the choir prize 'Golden State Choral Trophy'.

The Golden Gate Men's Choir is one of the participating choirs and comes from San Francisco, such as the name suggests: The Golden Gate Bridge is the world famous bridge at the entrance to San Francisco Bay at the Golden Gate in California. That’s the connection to the choir’s name.

The choir consists of 50 men, representing the ethnic and social diversity of their home town San Francisco, who share a common love of choral music. With music director, Joseph Piazza, the GGMC presents spring, summer, and winter programs annually, in addition to numerous guest and community benefit performances throughout the year.

Founded in 1982, the Golden Gate Men's Chorus is dedicated to giving voice to the gay community in San Francisco through singing together. The choir is committed to excellence and joyous music-making; providing a supportive and nurturing atmosphere for the members' artistic and social self-expression; and sharing and expanding the rich and continuing tradition of male choral music.

In July 2014 at the World Choir Games in Riga, Latvia, GGMC was awarded Gold Medals in the "Musica Sacra with accompaniment" and "Male Choirs" Champions Competitions, and a Silver  Medal in the "Spiritual" Champions Competition.

We are pleased to welcome the Golden Gate Men's Choir at Golden State Choral Trophy in Monterey as a participant and wish good luck for the home game!
