“EUROVISION CHOIR” TV show to open European Choir Games

National Orchestra of Sweden to perform in the Closing Concert

On August 3, 2019 the second edition of the choral talent TV show “EUROVISION CHOIR” will take place at Partille Arena in Gothenburg, Sweden. The show, organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in cooperation with INTERKULTUR will open the prestigious international choir competition “Grand Prix of Nations Gothenburg 2019 & 4th European Choir Games” to take place in Gothenburg on August 3-10, 2019.

10 of Europe’s best amateur choirs will be trying and impress a panel of international choral music stars by performing an unaccompanied selection of music in a variety of styles. Blending spectacular staging and a live stadium ambience with eclectic and p

rofound musical performances from a wide range of traditions and cultures, Eurovision Choir will again take viewers on a colorful journey across Europe in search of the continent's pre-eminent amateur vocal group.

10 EBU Member broadcasters have confirmed their participation in the event and will send their choral representatives to compete in the show: Belgium (RTBF), France (France Télévisions), Germany (WDR), Latvia (LTV), Norway (NRK), Scotland (BBC Alba), Slovenia (RTVSLO), Sweden (SVT), Switzerland (RTS), Wales (S4C).

ABBA medley with 450 singers to welcome international guests

A further highlight of the Opening event of the Grand Prix of Nations & European Choir Games will be an ABBA medley sung by 450 singers from around the region of Gothenburg to welcome the international participants. They will be conducted by the Artistic Director of the event, Fred Sjöberg and share the stage with the renowned Bohuslän Big Band, a Swedish orchestra, well-known for their experimental way of merging traditional jazz and big band music with many different genres. They have been working together with a number of big artists such as Gregory Porter, Carla Bley, Joe Lovano, Vince Mendoza, Maria Schneider and Nils Landgren.

Grand finale with the National Orchestra of Sweden

For the Closing event of the Grand Prix of Nations Gothenburg 2019 & 4th European Choir Games on August 10, the audience will get to experience the Swedish love for musicals in a performance by the Gothenburg Symphony, together with up to 500 international singers on stage, again conducted by Fred Sjöberg.

The Gothenburg Symphony is the National Orchestra of Sweden and among the best symphony orchestras worldwide. With an international shine they reach and attract a broad audience.
