The birthplace of the icon of existentialist literature, Franz Kafka, and of the renowned romantic composer, Antonín Dvořák, Prague has been described as a diamond among pearls and as the Paris of the 90s. The Gothic jewel of the kingdom of Bohemia, capital of today’s Czech Republic, Prague has been called the most picturesque city in the world.

Nicknamed “the City of a Hundred Spires,” it’s known for its Old Town Square where the streets are a fantasy scarcely touched by the twenty-first century — or the twentieth or nineteenth, with colourful baroque buildings, Gothic churches and imposing castles. The ancient splendour and beauty of Prague is sure to leave an everlasting impression on your imagination.

NEW! INSPIRING! NON-COMPETITIVE!

INTERKULTUR’s new project combines your wanderlust and your love of music. The ON STAGE event series is ready to check off your list of must-see cities and will do so while providing all the comforts of a non-competitive choral music event and the opportunities and delights of a tourist tour around local traditions, culture and history….and, yes, also around local fun. Worldwide landmark cities will be your stage and heaven for the 4-day events which will revolve around friendship concerts, touristic tours, workshops and celebration.

The events are designed for all those who wish to combine their music with travelling, learning and experiencing of new destinations.

The schedule will include touristic activities (sight-seeing), short concerts in touristic places (churches, halls), a workshop with a local choir and a joint concert of all the participants.

Program

Workshop with Jan Míšek

Jan Míšek has been gathering valuable experience in his years as a choirmaster and composer. He is a graduate of several Master classes from experts such as prof. Gert Frischmuth, prof. Friedrich Krell, prof. Jerry Jordan, as well as Masterclasses under Bachakademie Stuttgart with prof. Helmuth Rilling.

After founding the first choir in 1993, he went on to become the head of the Kantiléna Chamber Choir and to found the Hradec Králové Male Voice Choir, after which, he lived his greatest dream and founded the BONIFANTES Boys’ Choir in Pardubice in 1999. In spite of his youth, Jan Míšek has been presented with a number of awards for outstanding conducting performance. He and his choirs have won lot of gold medals.

As a guest conductor Mr. Míšek cooperated with orchestras (Chamber philharmonic orchestra Pardubice, Philharmonic orchestra Hradec Králové, Philharmonic orchestra of Conservatory Prague and Pardubice, Barroco sempre giovane and others). He cooperated with stars of opera world such as Mara Zampieri, Peter Dvorský or José Carreras.

Jan Míšek is also involved in composing activities. As a composer, he attended International Summer Music Academy in Michelstadt with prof. Jan Jirásek and prof. Ofer Ben-Amots. He won the 2nd Prize at Joseph Dorman Int. Composer’s Competition. The Union of Czech Choirs awarded him the “Junior Choirmaster” prize in 2003. He has been acknowledged by experts for his interpretation of 20th century music (e.g. Shostakovich: Symphony Nr. 13 "Babij Jar", Rutter: Gloria) and for historically authentic interpretation of baroque music (e.g. Handel: Judas Maccabaeus, Bach: Matthäus Passion).

Destination

The bohemian allure and fairytale features of Prague make it a perfect destination for beach-weary vacationers who want to immerse themselves in culture. You could devote an entire day to exploring Prazsky hrad (Prague Castle), then refueling over a hearty dinner at a classic Czech tavern. Spend some time wandering the Old Town Square before heading over to gape at The Old Town Hall and Astronomical Clock. Prague’s best bars are found in cellars, where historic pubs set the scene for a night of traditional tippling.
