A Choral Firework with World Festival Singers

Massed choir performance at the Closing Ceremony of the World Choir Games

World Choir Games 2016

The Closing Ceremony on July 16 marks the fulminant ending of the 9th World Choir Games 2016. Special guests will be the Festival Stage Choir, also known as World Festival Singers. This choir was especially put together for this event and will enter the stage together for this special concert only.

The roughly 1500 singers come from Egypt, Lebanon, Namibia, China, Nigeria and from Russia and have been rehearsing together only during the World Choir Games in Sochi. The choir will be joined by well-known Russian soloists and around 120 orchestral musicians.

Their repertoire will make everyone sing and dance along and conclude the brilliant evening and spectacular World Choir Games 2016. The program is called “Choral fireworks - Spirit of the world” and seems like a musical journey around the whole world. It includes, among others, traditional and well-known folk songs from all over the world like “La cucaracha” from Mexico, “Indodana” from South Africa, “Kalinka” from Russia or the traditional Gospel “Oh when the Saints go Marching in”. The final song will be like a symbol of the whole World Choir Games event: Michael Jackson’s world famous pop anthem “We are the world”.

The Festival Stage choir will be conducted by Fred Sjöberg (Sweden), Yang Li (China), Michael Barret (South Africa) the Russian conductors Victor Zakharchenko, Vladimir Minin and Lev Kontorovich.
