“Hello Council”: Guidance on Repertoire Selection for the World Choir Games
22nd edition of “Hello Council” was broadcast live on December 5
“Hello Council” is a live talk and online pedagogical workshop series organized by INTERKULTUR China with the support of INTERKULTUR and the World Choir Council. The 22nd edition of “Hello Council” was broadcast live on December 5, featuring three Chinese guest speakers with extensive experience in preparing choirs for the World Choir Games: Prof. Yan Baolin, Dr. Pan Xingzimin, and Ms. Liu Jiaqi. This session focused on the topic “Guidance on Repertoire Selection for the World Choir Games.” More than 3,000 viewers joined the live broadcast, and over 10,000 people have watched the recorded session since then.
The speakers addressed three key aspects of repertoire selection. First, with regard to copyright compliance, they clearly outlined legitimate ways of obtaining and using authorized musical scores, emphasizing that respect for copyright regulations is a fundamental requirement for participation in international competitions and an essential element of professional integrity.
econd, in terms of understanding the judging criteria, they provided a professional interpretation of the competition’s scoring system, analyzing differences in the evaluation of artistic expression across cultural contexts. This helped choirs better position themselves internationally while preserving their artistic identity.
Finally, in the area of strategic alignment, the speakers focused on how choirs can realistically assess their own capabilities, select repertoire that highlights their strengths, and actively gain experience through participation in competitions.
Following this session, choirs are now preparing for the next cycle of international competitions with a clearer approach to repertoire selection, a more structured awareness of copyright issues, and a more systematic self-assessment process.
We look forward to seeing choirs present themselves with increased maturity, confidence, and professionalism at the World Choir Games 2026, showcasing the richness and harmony of their own choral culture on the international stage.
