10th International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition
Singing in the colourful city in the Harz mountain range
Since 1999 the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition is a crowd puller for choirs and music ensembles from all over the world. The colorful city in the Harz mountain range attracts visitors with its unique charm of medieval architecture and moreover with its musical characteristics: Three renowned German choirs come from this small town. Furthermore this competition, named after Johannes Brahms, puts a musical focus on this German composer and the German romantics of the 19th century.
Numerous advanced trainings offer interested choirs outstanding possibilities of mutual learning and professional training e.g. with evaluation performances and individual coaching.
Apart from pedagogical offers further concerts will take place downtown and in the surroundings of Wernigerode.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival & Competition the city of Wernigerode and INTERKULTUR will come up with some surprises, which will add to the program's established highlights such as the Choir Parade, Charity Concert and the Closing Concert.

The ensemble was founded in 2003 and won the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival & Competition the same year. They also achieved a 3rd place at the German Choir Competition in Kiel (2006) and the 1st place at the first Grand Prix of Choirs (2007), made a concert tour to China (2008) and won two gold medals at the 2nd European Choir Games & Grand Prix of Nations in Magdeburg (2015).

The Real Group, The King’s Singers или Take 6 можно регулярно встретить весной в Лейпциге.
(MDG).

Church St. Sylvestri
Address: Oberpfarrkirchhof 12, 38855 Wernigerode
The foundation of the church St. Sylvestrikirche on the Klint (oldest part of Wernigerode) dates back to the intensive missionary work of the Benedictines of the monastery Corvey/Weser.
Nothing is left from this first small church. But the pillars from the following crosswise, three-naved and Romanic building (around 1100) are still standing inside the church. The last major architectural changes were done from 1880-1886, when the neo-Gothic tower was built. The former Romanic flat slab was reinstalled due to static reasons and nowadays keeps the acoustics in good stead during concerts.
The church features many extraordinary works of art and commodities, e.g. two bells from 1297 and 1500, epitaphs from five centuries, textiles (from 1520 on), an oak wardrobe (13. Jh.), a Baroque organ from 1790. The Gothic altar (Brussels 1480) and its crucifix (around 1300) also attract the attention of the visitors. The church invites to pause for peace and meditation but also to Sunday masses and weekly concerts in summer and is very popular for weddings.

Market Square Wernigerode
The marketplace in Wernigerode with its town hall and the timber frame buildings is a must-see for every visitor of the Harz. The town hall was originally being erected as a "Spelhus" and served as a court as well as a place for public entertainment for dance, juggler events and wedding festivities. Today it is the office building of the municipality Wernigerode. On the marketplace in front of the town hall the Wohltäterbrunnen (benefactor well) is being situated. The well, which was casted in 1848 by the iron foundry Ilsenburg, shall remind the citizens of all people who rendered outstanding services for the welfare of Wernigerode. In 1991 e.g. the city installed a plaque for colonel Gustav Petri, who saved the city of Wernigerode in 1945 of being destroyed with his brave intervention. During the competition friendship concerts will be taking place on the market place.

Cathedral Halberstadt
Address: Domplatz 16A, 38820 Halberstadt
Since over 1.200 years the St. Stephanus and St. Sixtus Dome is the spiritual centre of the city and the whole region. Fascinating works of art document its eventful history. The cathedral, which is nowadays open to the public, was erected between 1236 and 1486 according to the example of French cathedrals. 290 Medieval glass paintings glow in the windows of the presbytery. The most significant element is the monumental triumphal cross group, originating from about 1210 and representing a masterpiece of medieval carvers.

DESTINATION
Wernigerode is a city with a special flair, as it is not only a gem of medieval architecture but also beautifully located at the edge of the Harz, a low mountain range in Germany. Hardly any other German city has so many gorgeous timber-framed buildings that compete for the visitor’s’ attention: the ideal setting for the parade and the opening ceremony as well as further open air events. And the narrow-gauge-railway also turns the discovery of the surroundings into a wonderful and charming experience.
There are several ways to get to Wernigerode by plane:
