Being in love with Wernigerode

Stellenberg Girls Choir will join anniversary event

Johannes Brahms Int. Choir Festival & Competition

It was in 2015 when conductor André van der Merwe from South Africa fell in love with Wernigerode. He acted as a juror at the 9th Int. Johannes Brahms Choral Festival & Competition and was thrilled by the cozy town, its narrow streets and half-timbered houses. He was sure to come back!

He was right, and in 2017 he will bring a top-class choir with him: The world renowned Stellenberg Girls Choir from Cape Town in South Africa was even the first participant that registered for the anniversary edition of the 10th Int. Brahms Choir Festival from July 5 – 9, 2017.

Stellenberg Girls Choir was founded in 1999 under the baton of André van der Merwe. Its members are all attending the Stellenberg High School in Cape Town, which has become known as an institution where choral singing is highly celebrated.

Since its inception, the choir has won numerous first places in national and international choral competitions and is regarded as one of the best girls’ choirs in the world.
