The sound of choirs resonates from Sri Lanka to the world
Closing of the Asia Pacific Choir Games 2017
The Closing Concert of the 4th Asia Pacific Choir Games & Grand Prix of Nations Colombo 2017 was an impressive coming together of the event’s crème de la crème. Choirs that were awarded the Champions title of the Asia Pacific Choir Games 2017 respectively the Winners of the Grand Prix of Nations at the prevenient Awards Ceremony afterwards got the chance to come on stage once again at the Closing concert and present their award-winning skills to participants and visitors.
Following these amazing choral performances with music and singers from Indonesia, Russia, and Sri Lanka the highlight of the concert turned the hall into a celebration of song, culture, and friendship: The Festival Stage choir consisting of choirs and singers from Sri Lanka, India, Iran and Latvia went on stage with a powerful message:
“We bring the pride of nations along with our singing hearts”, sounded through the hall, when they performed the official festival anthem “Asia Aura”, conducted by INTERKULTUR’s Artistic Director Johan Rooze (Netherlands) and accompanied by the Sri Lanka Symphonic Orchestra. The program continued with Danno budunge by John de Silva as a special appreciation for the host country and “For the beauty of the earth” – the beautiful song performed by INTERKULTUR’s Honorary Artistic President, the British composer John Rutter continuing the evening’s main message: “For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, friends on earth, and friends above […] o thee we raise this our joyful hymn of praise.”
The performance climaxed in the song “We are the world” by Michael Jackson, which was sang along by everybody on stage and in the audience – making the song’s main message visible and perceptible at this place, the Ballroom at Temple Tree in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Thank you to all participants, partners, jurors and everyone else who was involved in making this event an outstanding success. Sri Lanka was a center of choral song last week and the music of this event will resound in many nations of the world for a long time to come.
The next chance for the choral world to come together on a huge global stage will be in summer 2018 at the World Choir Games 2018 in South Africa. The next Grand Prix of Nations will happen in Gothenburg, Sweden in August 2019, along with the 4th European Choir Games.Back
