"I'd like to thank the whole organization of Interkultur for an amazing choral event/competition in Graz. We had one of our best experiences in 40 years as a choir."
World Choir Championships for Youth and Young Adults
The World Choir Games in Graz in 2008 have been one of the biggest and most successful INTERKULTUR events so far. The city’s location in the heart of Europe and its hospitable atmosphere fascinated all participants.
This was reason enough for INTERKULTUR to organize another major event for the international choral scene in Graz: the 1st World Choir Championships for Youth and Young Adults. The World Choir Games imply singing as a whole, in all styles. The World Choir Championships, however, are dedicated to individual categories. The World Choir Championships 2011 were particularly planned for children’s choirs, youth choirs and choirs of young adults from all over the world.
Children’s and youth choirs in particular attend continually the INTERKULTUR events in order to prove their skills, to receive evaluations and to show their quality improvements or simply to experience the unique atmosphere of such an event. A lot of them participated in the World Choir Games several times and are now looking for new challenges. In 2011 roughly 120 choirs took the chance to become the first-ever World Choir Champion of Youth and Young Adults.
A parade of the choirs, open air concerts in the city center, daily performances of winners and gala concerts in a great ambience were just some of the various opportunities to hear choirs from all over the world. Singers made the whole city of Graz resound, a whole week-long.
INTERKULTUR events provide the opportunity to customize your event experience by mixing and matching competitive and non-competitiv categories of participation.
The Qualification Round appeals to all choirs, which did not yet possess vast international experience. These choirs have the possibility to present themselves, regardless of their present artistic performance level, to measure their achievements, and to collect valuable competitive experiences.
We aim to allow as many choirs as possible to participate in the Champions Round (2nd round) and therefore to reward their diligent work. The MUSICA MUNDI evaluation system with its artistic and technical criteria is formed in a way that it gives all choirs the possibility to qualify for the Champions round.
The Champions round conjoins choirs which already play an excellent role in the international competitive events and have received in events from INTERKULTUR or other international competitions golden certificates or comparable evaluations. In each category of this round the World Choir Champion will be determined.
Apart from the World Choir Championships, this INTERKULTUR event offers a festival which focuses on encounters between international choirs and singing together.
"We had such a great time! Enjoyed singing and competition, and the wonderful time which we spend in Graz."
"Everything was really great for us and it was a real pleasure to be a part of World Choir Championship, for kids who were crying like babies (but a lot louder) when they won their medal, and us adults!"
This event lies in the past!
