The World of Voices 2026: New Year’s Concert Series launches

Five online choral highlights under the theme "Singing the New Year, Embracing Beauty Together"

Happy New Year!

Recently, INTERKULTUR China announced that the "The World of Voices" 2026 New Year’s Concert Series, themed “Singing the New Year, Embracing Beauty Together”, will take place online from December 31, 2025, to January 4, 2026. Five high-quality choral concerts will be live-streamed via the World Choir Games WeChat video account, sending New Year’s greetings through harmonious sounds and showcasing the diversity and artistic strength of Chinese choral culture.

As the founder of the World Choir Games, INTERKULTUR has long been committed to international choral exchange. This New Year’s concert series is designed to overcome geographical boundaries through online live streaming. It creates a festive and uplifting New Year atmosphere for audiences while offering choirs from across China a platform for presentation and artistic exchange, further strengthening the national visibility of the World Choir Games brand.

Each of the five concerts features distinct regional characteristics and cultural highlights. The opening concert on the evening of December 31, 2025, will be the 16th “Sea Melody” New Year’s Chorus Concert in Xiamen. As a well-established local cultural brand, the event brings together outstanding choirs from Xiamen and combines Minnan cultural elements with contemporary choral art, reflecting the city’s rich choral tradition as a former World Choir Games Host City.

The second concert, held on the evening of January 1, 2026, celebrates the 10th anniversary of the “Yangshan Shenge” Ningbo Choir. Built around the concept of the coexistence of sound and image, the performance innovatively merges choral music with visual art exhibitions, offering audiences a multi-layered audio-visual experience.

On the evening of January 2, the 19th Guiyang Gui’an New Year’s Chorus Concert will take place. With a history of nearly 20 years, this long-standing community cultural brand will bring together more than ten choirs from across Guizhou Province, conveying the warmth and vitality of the city through collective singing.

The third “Voice of the Mountain City” Choral Concert will be presented in Chongqing on the evening of January 3. Deeply rooted in Ba-Yu culture, this local choral brand reflects how choral singing has become an important artistic expression of Chongqing’s urban spirit.

The series concludes on the evening of January 4 with the “Harmony Without Boundaries – 2025 Shenzhen Choral Training Program Achievement Concert”. This event brings together composition, conducting, and vocal performance at the highest level. Six renowned conductors, seven leading choirs from Shenzhen, and six composers will collaborate closely, guiding rehearsals and refining performances. As written notes come to life and compositional ideas meet the expressive power of conductors and singers, the concert promises moments of exceptional artistic intensity.

The event is hosted by the INTERKULTUR China Office. This New Year’s concert series connects audiences across the country through choral music, adds cultural warmth to the festive season, and injects fresh momentum into the continued development of Chinese choral art.

The “The World of Voices” concert series began with its first online Spring Festival choral concert in 2021. In 2022, the program expanded with a range of themed concerts for occasions such as Youth Day (May 4), Children’s Day (June 1), Teachers’ Day, and the Chongyang Festival, establishing a well-structured series of special events. The “Voices for Peace” concert series was launched in 2022 with the aim of conveying a shared vision of peace. Together with the “The World of Voices” Chinese New Year concert series, initiated in 2021, these formats now form two parallel artistic strands.

From 2023 onward, based on the “Voices for Peace” concept, the “One World” 2023 Voices for Peace New Year Concert and the 2024 Voices for Peace New Year Choral Concert were presented. In 2025, a New Year’s choral concert featured performances by the Chinese champion choir of the 2024 World Choir Games. During New Year’s Day and the Chinese New Year period of 2026, five “The World of Voices – Singing the New Year, Embracing Beauty Together” New Year’s choral concerts, as well as the “Harmony of All Things” Chinese New Year concerts, will be presented successively.
