And finally, LISBON SINGS!
The last INTERKULTUR choral event in 2022 has just begun
We’ve been waiting for this event for so long! And yesterday evening, finally, LISBON SINGS opened in the Portuguese capital. Together with ON STAGE in Lisbon, which will open tonight, a total of 25 choirs from 16 nations are meeting, coming together, singing together and having a great time during the next few days.
The Opening Concert in the Aula Magna of Lisbon University then reflected the excitement and endless joy of sharing a stage together again, and all choirs really enjoyed the others’ performances, and everybody got in the best mood for the event.
As a welcome, Coro Infantil da Universidade de Lisboa from the hosting city performed some traditional Portuguese pieces, amongst others a piece by famous Portuguese composer Fernando Lopes Graça: 3 Esconjuros – a “spell agains bad encounters”, “spell against cheating husbands” and “spell against the storms”, which impressed the audience and was highly acclaimed.
Afterwards, also Coro de Câmara da Universidade de Lisboa and Coro Da Universidade de Lisboa gave a warm welcome to the international guests, before the guests brought pieces from their homes to their hosts: Vokalensemle Incantanti brought the Swiss mountains to Lisbon by presenting traditional music and using typical Swiss instruments like the alpenhorn and the so-called “Talerschwingen”. Given that rather no one in the audience had seen this kind of instruments live on stage before, the applause and cheering after their performance seemed to be endless.
The Opening Concert closed with a performance by Youth Choir Motýli Šumperk from Czech Republic presenting three traditional pieces from their home and thus concluding a wonderful first evening of LISBON SINGS, full of friendship, happiness and international harmony.
Tonight, ON STAGE in LIBSON will open with another Opening Concert featuring performances by choirs from Portugal, Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Greece and Ghana. It starts at 19:30 h in the Aula Magna and is open to the public as well. Entrance is free!
By the way: The Swiss Vokalensemble incantanti is covering its Lisbon adventures in a daily video log, which you can follow on YouTube. So, if you’re interested in how participating in an international choir event looks like from the point of the singers, it’s definitely worth taking a look here!
