"Due to the circumstances and severe restrictions that the choral scene has faced in recent months - and continues to face - it is very important to INTERKULTUR, the city of Koblenz and the artistic management team to be able to offer a new perspective for choirs to come together and sing together in the city of Koblenz without extensive travel and overnight stays."

Open Stage - It's all about taking part!
The German Choir Championship - Open Stage invites choirs from November 26-28, 2021 to sing and perform together again after a long period of silence.
The worldwide COVID-19 pandemic has silenced choral music for a long time and also severely affected the planning of the first German Choir Championship - but the current crisis will gradually pass. It is now more than ever the aim of the organizers to strengthen and promote choral singing in Germany and to give the singers a stage again.
And so we are happy to announce that a total of 18 choirs have decided to join us in setting a sign of hope and finally let Koblenz resound with choral music again on Saturday, November 27, 2021, the first weekend of Advent!
Choirs from the region and from all over Germany are invited to meet under the applicable hygiene rules, to sing in churches and in public places and to finally experience community again and to set a sign together.
In addition we are happy to offer two special concerts: the festive opening concert on November 26, 20.00 with the internationally renowned vocel ensemble amarcord and the Youth Chamber Choir of the Koblenz music school (conducted by Juliane Kathary), as well as a closing concert on November 27, 20.00 with the Radio Youth Choir of Wernigerode (conducted by Robert Göstl).
The city of Koblenz, as the partner city of this event, is centrally located and easy to reach from all over Germany, which makes it possible for many choirs to participate even without an overnight stay. All venues are within walking distance of each other, so that concerts and competitions can be easily followed.
People want to sing in community again and not just come together virtually. And this possibility shall be given still this year at the German Choir Championship - Open Stage under consideration of the valid hygiene and safety regulations!
You are cordially invited to join us in Koblenz in November! The event will again offer the German choral scene the opportunity to meet, get to know each other and enjoy the common choral experience.
What you should know!
This video is available in German only.
Be there and present your freely chosen repertoire on the open stages of the city of Koblenz!
We are leaving the competition of the German Choir Championships completely behind in this year's event and are fully concentrating on the sense of community and the support of the German choir scene. It is important to us to give choirs a platform, stage and goal again.
You can still register with your choir for one of the concert places until September 15, 2021. Please use the registration form for this purpose.
The performances will take place in the churches of Koblenz and probably at the Koblenz Christmas market, so that you can reward yourself with mulled wine directly after the performance.
Of course, we also have special highlights for you:
To kick off this weekend, the Leipzig ensemble amarcord and the Youth Chamber Choir of the Koblenz Music School will sing in St. Kastor at the Deutsches Eck on Friday evening, November 26, 2021, at 8:00 pm.
On Saturday evening you will be able to join an Open Sing in the Herz-Jesu church, with University Music Director Christian Jeub and dean-cantor Joachim Aßmann. Subsequently the Radio Youth Choir of Wernigerode will present a mixed repertoire under the baton of its new choir conductor, Robert Göstl.
Information about tickets will be available shortly on this page.
"I am confident that the German Choir Championship will be able to take place in Koblenz in November, in accordance to all hygiene regulations. We will prove that choir singing can be very modern and exciting and that it can enthuse people, both young and old!"
"Freely following the motto „It's all about being there!“, it is important to the organizers to promote the German choral scene, to give them a chance to finally stand together on one stage again and to present choral singing to the public with new strength."
Registration deadline: September 15, 2021
Participation for all choirs is free of charge this year.
As a participating choir at this year's German Choir Championship - Open Stage, you will also receive special conditions for the participation in the 1st German Choir Championship in Koblenz, scheduled for October 21-23, 2022. Choirs and smaller ensembles of all performance levels will then have the chance to present themselves in front of a jury of experts, have their performance evaluated and compete for the first time for the title of German Choir Champion.
Travel arrangements need to be organized and covered by the participating choirs (their members or accompanying persons) themselves.
The city of Koblenz, as the partner city of this event, is centrally located and easy to reach from all over Germany, which may even make it possible for you to participate without an overnight stay. If you still need a place to stay overnight, the organization team will be happy to assist you. The booking of overnight stays as a service of the agency is optional and has no influence on your participation in the event.

The ‘German Corner’ with its emperor, the Electoral Palace, kilometres of waterfront promenades, Stolzenfels Castle, the epitome of Rhine romance and the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress overlooking the city. The spectacular cable car over the Rhine, the wine village, the Forum Confluentes... And much more: Koblenz is not only one of Germany’s oldest cities but also one of the most diverse.
Churches, castles, palaces and historic town houses tell the story of past times, while winding streets and squares invite you to stroll around and relax. The vineyards and Ehrenbreitstein Fortress also provide incomparable views over the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, keeping the romance of the Rhine alive.
