30 Jahre INTERKULTUR und die 10. Ausgabe der World Choir Games – das feiern wir im Jahr 2018!
Die Jubiläumsveranstaltung des größten internationalen Chorwettbewerbs der Welt wird eine Premiere: Zum ersten Mal überhaupt findet eine INTERKULTUR-Veranstaltung auf dem afrikanischen Kontinent statt.
Willkommen in Tshwane, willkommen in Südafrika!
Alle Amateurchöre der Welt sind eingeladen, 11 Tage lang Sängerinnen und Sänger aus der ganzen Welt im Wettbewerb, bei Freundschaftskonzerten und großen Singprojekten zu begegnen.
Sie erleben hautnah die Stimmung, das ganz besondere Temperament und den Geist südafrikanischer Chormusik, teilen ihre gemeinsame Leidenschaft für das Singen und lassen sich voneinander inspirieren.
Teilnahmemöglichkeiten
Die World Choir Games in Tshwane laden alle Amateurchöre der Welt unabhängig ihres bisherigen Leistungsniveaus zur Teilnahme ein. Die Veranstaltung bietet erfahrenen Wettbewerbschören sowie Chören mit wenig internationaler Erfahrung gleichermaßen faire Wettbewerbsbedingungen und Teilnahmemöglichkeiten in 27 verschiedenen Kategorien.
Die Wettbewerbe der World Choir Games bestehen aus den zwei Teilen „The Champions Competition” und „The Open Competition”, die jeweils für Chöre unterschiedlicher Leistungsstufen konzipiert wurden.
Chöre, die nicht am Wettbewerb teilnehmen wollen, haben die Möglichkeit, bei den World Choir Games an zahlreichen Festivalchor-Projekten, Freundschaftskonzerten, Beratungsrunden und Proben mit internationalen Dirigenten sowie verschiedenen Workshop-Angeboten teilzunehmen.
A - Wettbewerbe
„The Champions Competition” richtet sich an Chöre mit internationaler Wettbewerbserfahrung und/oder vergleichbaren Qualifikationen, die auch bereits schon internationale Erfolge aufweisen können. Die finale Zulassung zu „The Champions Competition” erfolgt durch die Entscheidung des Künstlerischen Komitees.
„The Open Competition“ gibt ganz im Sinne der Olympischen Idee – „Teilnahme ist die höchste Ehre“ – allen Chören die Möglichkeit, unabhängig von ihrem derzeitigen künstlerischen Leistungsstand wertvolle Erfahrungen in einem internationalen Wettbewerb zu sammeln.
In beiden Wettbewerbsteilen werden 27 verschiedene Kategorien angeboten, unter denen die Teilnehmerchöre die für sich passenden auswählen können:

B - Bewertung ohne Wettbewerbsteilnahme
BI – Beratungsrunde für Chöre die nicht am Wettbewerb teilnehmen
Teilnahmeberechtigt sind alle Chöre, die nicht an einem der Wettbewerbe teilnehmen möchten aber bei den World Choir Games internationale Erfahrungen sammeln wollen.
Teilnehmende Chöre singen vor einer internationalen Jury ein maximal 15-minütiges Programm bestehend aus 3 Stücken. Nach Beendigung des Programms wird es eine kurze, interne Beratung der Chorexperten geben. Schließlich wird das Programm mit dem Chor in einer offenen und freundlichen Atmosphäre besprochen.
Der Chor wird Ratschläge für die zukünftige Teilnahme an internationalen Wettbewerben erhalten. Den Chören wird außerdem eine offizielle World Choir Games Teilnahmeurkunde verliehen.
BII – Probe mit internationalem Dirigenten
Allen Chören, unabhängig davon ob sie an dem Wettbewerb teilnehmen oder nicht, wird die Möglichkeit gegeben, eine eigene Probe mit einem bekannten internationalen Dirigenten zu gestalten.
Chöre, die an der Probe mit einem internationalen Dirigenten teilnehmen wollen, sollen ein Chorwerk vorbereiten. Ein international anerkannter Chorexperte wird dieses Stück mit Ihrem Chor proben und Ihnen neue künstlerische Ideen und Impulse geben. Chöre, die nicht am Wettbewerb teilnehmen bekommen ein Zertifikat und eine Empfehlung für die Teilnahme an einem zukünftigen internationalen Chorwettbewerb.
C - Festival
CI - Freundschaftskonzerte
Ganz in der Tradition der World Choir Games können Chöre an zahlreichen Konzerten und öffentlichen Auftritten teilnehmen.
Internationale Freundschaftskonzerte bringen verschiedenste Chöre zusammen, um in und rund um die Gastgeberstadt Tshwane an öffentlichen Plätzen zu singen. Diese Gelegenheit gibt jedem Chor die Möglichkeit, eigene musikalische Traditionen und Trachten ihres Heimatlandes zu präsentieren.
CII - Festivalchor
In der Abschlussveranstaltung wird die Fahne der World Choir Games an den Bürgermeister der nächsten gastgebenden Stadt überreicht. Danach wird in der Halle ein musikalisches Feuerwerk der Superlative gezündet. Ein Massenchor, der extra für diese Veranstaltung gebildet wird, singt gemeinsam mit Solisten und Orchester populäre Werke vom klassischen Halleluja bis hin zu Bearbeitungen aktueller Hits. Ähnlich wie bei der „Last night of the Proms“ ist es bereits zu einer Tradition geworden, dass unter dem Titel „Choral Fireworks“ eine Reihe von Volksliedern aller Kontinente, populäre Songs sowie traditionell „We are the world“ aufgeführt werden, bei dem alle Anwesenden mitsingen und -tanzen können und den fulminanten Abend beschließen.
Die Teilnahme an diesem Projekt setzt eine Zulassung durch das Künstlerische Komitee voraus. Darüber hinaus sollten Sie das aufgeführte Musikprogramm selbstständig einstudieren und vorbereitet zu den Abschlussproben eintreffen.
D - Workshops
Die World Choir Games bieten interessierten Teilnehmern eine breite Palette an Workshops. Im Rahmen dieser Veranstaltungen werden Chöre, Chorleiter und Einzelpersonen mit internationaler Chorliteratur, unterschiedlichen Gesangsrichtungen und verschiedenartigen Aufführungspraxen vertraut gemacht. Die Zusammenarbeit mit anderen Sängern unter professioneller Anleitung kann Sängerinnen und Sängern Augen und Ohren für völlig neue Chor-Erfahrungen öffnen.

The University of Pretoria (Afrikaans: Universiteit van Pretoria, Northern Sotho: Yunibesithi ya Pretoria) is a multi-campus public research university in Pretoria, the administrative and de facto capital of South Africa.
Built as a designated complex to provide facilities for the Department of Music which was established in 1958, this structure consists of office wings, an auditorium and an open-air amphitheatre. UP alumnus and architect Brian Sandrock was responsible for the design of the facility which was built on part of the old athletics field. Remnants of the spectator terraces around the track can still be seen to the east of the Musaion. The office wing of the complex was completed in 1960 and the auditorium and amphitheatre the following year. The complex was officially opened with a series of concerts in 1961 and in April 1962 with a gala concert featuring South African opera star Mimi Coertse and the South African Broadcasting Corporation Symphony Concert. The complex features elements of the Little Brazilian or Modern Brazilian style and has excellent acoustics. In 1976 the University installed a mechanical-action pipe organ in the Musaion that consists of 2 659 organ pipes, of which the tallest measures 4,9 metres. The Musaion seats just over 500 people and the amphitheatre around 3 000. Free weekly lunch-hour concerts are held in the Musaion during term. Together with the Aula, the Musaion and Amphitheatre the complex is an important cultural venue on the University campus.

The University of Pretoria (Afrikaans: Universiteit van Pretoria, Northern Sotho: Yunibesithi ya Pretoria) is a multi-campus public research university in Pretoria, the administrative and de facto capital of South Africa.
The main hall and site of ceremonies, the Aula, was designed by Karel Jooste and completed in 1958. The Aula was the first Opera House to be built in the capital and remained the major venue in the city until the State Theatre's completion in the early 1980s. The 1012-seat auditorium has played host to foreign dignitaries, presidents, local and international artists. The main music complex, comprising the 500-seat Musaion and 3000-seat Amphitheatre, was built between 1960–1964. The University Chapel, formally the Church of Saint Alfons Maria de Liguori, and the accompanying Monastery was built in 1925 and was bought from the Catholic Church in 1980. Saint Alfons, who was canonised in 1839, was the founder of the order of Ligournians (or Redemptorists), an order founded in 1732 in Naples, Italy and dedicated to helping underprivileged communities.

The St Albans Cathedral in a historical context relates to the separation of the Diocese clergy into various fragments around the nation. Tomkyns (1929: 7) describes the origins of the Anglican liturgy in South Africa as being the Diocese of the Cape of Good Hope, which was subsequently divided in 1853. Ledwaba (2005: 22) explains that in 1806 when the Cape was colonised by the British, a colonial garrison chaplain began regular services.
As explained by Reverend Brian Tee, the Cathedral parish dates back to 1864 with the annual arrival of Bishop Twells who’s Diocese extended from the Orange River to the Zambezi River. His congregation was dispersed and separated until the stationing of Reverend Joseph Wills who gathered the congregation into one unity which could be seen in the plan of the city when the cathedral was completed. Later, in 1873, applications to construct the first Anglican Church in Church Street were submitted and were at first rejected by Government officials. This resulted in the construction of the “small, plain, thatched barn-like structure with a seating capacity of about a hundred people” (Tomkyns, 1929: 12) by the Royal Engineers.

The South African State Theatre is a national flagship that facilitates the arts and entertainment and encourages diverse cultural provision; we seek to play a unique and vital role in the cultural life of the Nation, the Province of Gauteng and the City of Tshwane.
The Opera House is the largest of six theatres, seating 1,300 patrons on three levels in- cluding a balcony. It has an orchestra pit that can be adjusted to accommodate up to 60 musicians. The seating has been arranged to provide excellent views of the stage from any vantage point. Continental style seating has been adopted, offering two entrance/exit doors for every four rows of seats to facilitate ease of entrance and exit of patrons. Capacity: 1300 seats.

Pearcy Eagle is one of the lesser known South African architects, and also one of the fewer appreciated ones. Eagle’s style is much influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement and the work of Sir Herbert Baker. Eagle was one of the architects at the forefront of the new developments in architecture, and was an architect of the 20th rather than the 19th century. Few works of architecture was born in a changing era and had the enduring grace of the buildings like Pretoria Boys High School. Pretoria Boys High School would be the embodiment of their philosophy and therefore it was fitting that among the first boys who attended the school were the sons of General Smuts and other prominent political leaders.
