Golden State Choral Trophy

November 20 - 24, 2016 Monterey (CA), USA

The American International Choral Festival

Monterey, the enchanting “Language Capital of the World” south of San Francisco, welcomes in 2016 choirs from all parts of the world in order to sing together and to reach for the Golden State Choral Trophy. Participants will not only have the possibility to take part in the competition but also to attend workshops led by international choral experts and to get to know the loveliness of Monterey’s coast first hand: The stunning peninsula represents a breath-taking composition of land, sea and sky and is considered as one of the most beauteous destinations in the world.

The Choral Trophy competition will take place during the „Indian Summer”, the perfect travel season for the West Coast due to the extraordinary dry, warm and sunny weather. On November 24 America will celebrate Thanksgiving, so that American singers can enjoy this big choral meeting a few days longer and spend this public holiday as well as Black Friday together with their families on the Monterey peninsula.

DESTINATION

Monterey offers the ultimate California experience! Immerse into a road trip on Highway One along the winding Big Sur coastline, which leads to Monterey, California’s former capital. Monterey is one of the earliest Spanish settlements; even nowadays the Spanish heritage is still visible throughout the city. Numerous historical buildings in the city center add a Mediterranean flair to Monterey.

“The Golden State” has ever since been a popular designation for California and became the state’s official nickname in 1968. It is especially appropriate as California’s development dates back to the times of the gold strikes in 1848 and nowadays one can admire fields of yellow poppies throughout the whole state each spring.

Competition Results

We congratulate all singers to their great results! All in all 7 golden, 4 silver and 1 bronze diplomas were awarded. Many thanks to all choirs and ensembles for participating!
