Bad Ischl welcomes 25 choirs from 14 nations

Choral music enthusiasts are invited to experience the prestigious 15th International Choir Competition and Festival in Bad Ischl, set in the picturesque landscapes of Salzkammergut from April 27 to May 1, 2024.

The festival kicks off on April 27 with an Opening Concert in Bad Ischl's Kongress & Theaterhaus featuring enchanting performances by choirs from diverse countries including Austria, Estonia, and Jordan. This grand opening sets the stage for a series of competitions and Friendship Concerts spanning April 28-30, covering a wide range of international categories of choral music: The participating choirs will compete in different competitions designed for Mixed Choirs, Choirs of Equal Voices, as well as Children and Youth Choirs, and including additional categories like Folklore, Pop, and Sacred Choral Music. 

Apart from the various competitions, choirs will further sing in a variety of Friendship Concerts in different venues throughout the city including the Musikpavillon, the St. Nikolaus Church, the Trinkhalle and the k.u.k. Hofbeisl Gastgarten. These performances will offer a diverse and rich tapestry of musical sounds and styles and make Bad Ischl resound during all festival days.

A highlight of this international choir event is happening on the final day, April 30: the Grand Prize competition will present the top choirs once again and invites them to compete once again in a thrilling final competition. The winner of this competition will receive the prestigious Bad Ischl Grand Prize 2024 - endowed with 2.000 €.

This event is poised to be a cultural highlight in the current European Capital of Culture, promising a memorable experience filled with musical excellence and cultural exchange.
