Hello Council: Welcome to the World Choir Games

Breakthrough of Chinese Romance

World Choir Council

"Hello Council" is a series of live talks and online pedagogical workshops organized by INTERKULTUR China with the support of INTERKULTUR and the World Choir Council. The 21st edition of "Hello Council" took place on August 28 with guest speakers Prof. Wu Lingfen, World Choir Council Representative from China, and three young Chinese conductors and composers: Ms. Zhai Rui, Mr. Wu Minghao, and Ms. Huang Xinfeir. This session focused on the topic "Emotional Expression in Choir Singing". More than 3,000 viewers joined the live broadcast, and over 10,000 people later watched the replay.

Through a series of case studies on Chinese choral works, the guests engaged in in-depth dialogue around three main dimensions: First, decoding the subtle and profound methods of emotional expression in Chinese choral music, second, exploring how contemporary Chinese compositions integrate traditional musical elements with modern choral techniques and third, examining how Chinese choirs gain recognition in international competitions such as the World Choir Games through their unique style of “Chinese Romanticism”.

On the same day, pre-registration for the China region’s marketing campaign of the 2026 World Choir Games was launched, attracting nearly one hundred Chinese choirs to sign up for event updates. Looking ahead to the 2026 WCG, Prof. Wu Lingfen encouraged Chinese choirs to participate actively, calling it another important opportunity for them to demonstrate their cultural confidence to the world. She emphasized that by drawing on their local cultural heritage and transforming it through artistic creativity and innovative choral staging, Chinese choirs can achieve a “romantic breakthrough” on the world stage — allowing international juries and audiences to experience the unique emotional expression and aesthetic ideals of Chinese culture through the art of choral singing.
