“We have once again loved every minute of participating in the World Choir Games, and appreciate the opportunity it gives our choristers.”
15th World Choir Games
A return to harmony. A moment to celebrate
When thousands of voices from around the world come together in 2027, it will be more than a musical event. It will be a powerful expression of unity, understanding, and peace. The World Choir Games 2027 mark a special jubilee as the 15th edition returns to its place of origin: Linz once again becomes the meeting point for the global choral community.
Since their premiere in Linz in 2000, the World Choir Games have brought together thousands of choirs from every continent. Musical traditions meet on stage and create a unique experience each time. The 15th edition offers a new opportunity for choirs worldwide to experience this special atmosphere at its origin and to be part of a global community shaped by singing.
2027 is the perfect angle for this special event: This year marks 75 years of European unity and also commemorates Ludwig van Beethoven, whose music became the anthem of Europe and stands as a symbol of shared values across borders. These ideas are at the heart of the World Choir Games: In Linz, cultures meet, generations connect, and voices come together in a spirit of openness and mutual understanding.
Whether experienced or new to international stages, each choir from the world is invited to contribute its voice. Join the World Choir Games 2027 in Linz and take part in a jubilee that stands for connection, exchange, and the power of choral music!
Invitation
Participation opportunities
The World Choir Games invites all non-professional choirs of the world to participate. The Games offer fair and realistic competition conditions to experienced competitive choirs as well as choirs with relatively little international experience. The World Choir Games offer The Champions Competition and The Open Competition. These two competitions allow choirs the opportunity to participate at the appropriate level.
Choirs who choose not to be placed in competition, but seek to be part of the international experience of the Games can participate in the non-competitive evaluation activities.

DESTINATION
Where It All Began — And Where It Belongs
Linz is no ordinary host city. It was here, on the banks of the Danube, that the very first World Choir Games were held in 2000 — and now, more than two decades later, the world's greatest choral celebration returns home.
Austria's third-largest city is a place where history and innovation coexist in rare harmony. The baroque spires of the Hauptplatz and the neo-Gothic grandeur of the Mariendom — Austria's largest cathedral — stand just minutes from the glowing glass facade of the Ars Electronica Center, a UNESCO-recognised beacon of art, technology and the future. Linz was named European Capital of Culture in 2009, and has since cemented its reputation as one of Central Europe's most vibrant and forward-thinking cities.
For musicians, Linz carries a resonance that goes deeper than architecture. This is the city that shaped Anton Bruckner — one of the great symphonic composers of the 19th century — who played the organ at the Old Cathedral and studied at the nearby Augustinian Abbey of St. Florian, where he now rests. His spirit lives on in the Brucknerhaus, a world-class concert hall on the Danube that has been bringing audiences and performers together for decades.
Beyond the stages and concert halls, Linz rewards those who wander. Ride the historic Pöstlingberg tram to a hilltop panorama over the Danube valley. Explore the Lentos Art Museum, its illuminated riverside facade reflecting on the water at dusk. Lose yourself in the Mural Harbor, one of Europe's largest open-air street art galleries. And before you leave, taste the Linzer Torte — a recipe traced back to 1653 and still baked to perfection in the city's beloved coffeehouses.
Linz is compact, walkable and genuinely welcoming — a city that knows how to host the world, because it has done it before. Come for the music. Stay for everything else.
