Akademisk Kor Århus to represent Denmark at Eurovision Choir of the Year

European Choir Games 2017

As one of the leading classical choirs in its home country the “Akademisk Kor Århus’” will be a fantastic choral representative for Denmark at the Eurovision Choir of the Year TV competition on July 22.

‘Akademisk Kor Århus’ is a mixed voice a cappella choir of around 30 experienced singers aged 20-35. It was founded in 1985 and is currently led by the award-winning conductor Ole Faurschou. All members of the choir are connected to the musical life of ‘The University of Aarhus’ or ‘The Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus’.

The choir’s repertoire consists mainly of new Danish and Nordic choral music. Since the Eurovision Choir of the Year requires at least one song from each choir representing the choral music from its home, we will hear a sample of it at the show for sure. But the choir’s skills also include a wide variety of other genres ranging from polyphonic music of the Renaissance to the intense and emotional Romantic period and to novel pieces by contemporary composers.
