Latvia clears its best stages for choirs!
The 14 best concert halls in Latvia open the gates for the choirs of the world
There are still about ten months left until thousands of singers from all over the world will come to Latvia for the Grand Prix of Nations & 3rd European Choir Games to sing in the country’s 14 best concert halls and to impress the citizens’ at the most beautiful places in the surroundings.
One of the already known venues is the Great Hall of the Latvian University in Riga. In 2014 the participating choirs of the World Choir Games brought their audience a lot of unforgettable musical experiences. Also in 2017 the architectural masterpiece of the 1930s will be the place to be when the next Champions are chosen. Even in the Great Guild (Lielā Guild) –, one of the oldest buildings in the Baltic States with origins in the 14th century – concerts and competitions will take place. This stage will be played throughout the year by renowned orchestras and it is the main concert hall of the National Symphony Orchestra of Latvia.
Differently from the World Choir Games 2014 many concerts will be additionally held in first-class concert halls in Riga’s surrounding area next year. So the choirs get an insight into the Latvian countryside and in the Latvian everyday life.
The concert hall Cēsis for example is located in the north of Latvia, near the Gauja National Park, the largest national park in Latvia. Both the exterior of the building as well as the event calender of Cēsis be in balance between history and modern art. Not only many contemporary musicians such as the violinist Gidon Kremer and the composer Gabriel Prokofiev enjoy the wonderful acoustics but also the participating choirs the European Choir Games in the summer 2017.
