Shape the future by choral singing

Only one week left until 24 choral ensembles from five different nations will spread choral music from all over the world in Corfu. One of the participating groups of the 1st Corfu International Festival and Choir Competition, to be held from October 12-16, is the actively engaged Greek Children’s Choir "Fons Musicalis".

Founded in 2012, the "Fons Musicalis" characterizes the future of youth by inspiring and educating them through singing together. The choir not only aims at top performances, but also builds a future in which the art of choral singing is viewed and made accessible to all children in the community, and builds bridges between cultures, ethnic groups and economic backgrounds.

Conducted by its founder Michail Karyofyllidis, Fons Musicalis has participated in many musical performances like Nana Kriekouki’s and Elsa Nakou’s, "Melodenia Politeia" and Charles Dickens’s "One Christmas Story". The choir has also performed with famous Greek singers (Manolis Mitsias, Nikolas Leivaditis, etc).

A highlight for the choir was the participation in "Olympolis Art Project", where the music composition of the Dutch composer Eddy Koopman "Rhapsody for Olympus" was presented as a world premiere. Another important and original activity was the collaboration with the Special School for deaf of Thessaloniki, presenting Greek and foreign songs: the choir was singing with their voices and simultaneously the choir of the school for deaf was "singing" with the sign language.

The top moment for "Fons Musicalis" so far was the win of first price in the 25th National Competition of Youth Choirs and Orchestras in 2015.
