Taxi drivers and knitting bloggers united in choral music

Vocal Ensemble Amanda synergizes singers from all paths of life

European Choir Games 2019

The Grand Prix of Nations Gothenburg 2019 & 4th European Choir Games from August 3-10, 2019 in Gothenburg, Sweden attracts a wide range of most diverse choral groups, amongst them the Swedish vocal ensemble Amanda. Formed in Gothenburg in 1981, “Amanda” is a group of musicians, actors, doctors, teachers and systems analysts, as well as taxi driving artists and a knitting blogger, who are dedicated to choir singing.

The ensemble has become a constant in the music world, as well as a crowd pleaser with their scenic and revolutionary performances. Perhaps this results from the group's strong desire to touch and to be touched by the encounters that their music creates. The motley mix of singers has created a unique artistic tension that challenges and stretches the limits of choral singing.

They are not an orchestra, not a dance company and not a drama group. Nevertheless, they move freely between all these forms of expression. In some kind of symbiosis that never fails, they move from humming sweet sounds to grimacing screams, they stomp, shake, drum - all in a well-ordered chaos. The repertoire consists of rock- and pop music, folk music from all over the world, classical art music and ballads.

Amanda has taken part in countless journeys, workshops, collaborations and musical meetings. After more than 30 years, the group succeeds with the art of staying together and, above all, to continue to develop.
