Choral music in unique Greek scenery

Corfu is an island that you will never forget. Even less when the most wonderful experiences will happen with your own choir at the 1st Corfu International Festival and Choir Competition 2016.

During the event, which will take place from October 12 to 16, 2016, 24 choirs from five different countries will sing in concert halls and at public places and will fill the city with choral music. Therefore Corfu has wonderful modern and historical venues such as the Liston. Located within the historic Old Town the place will host the Opening Event on October 13 when the choirs are welcomed by the organizers, the Municipality of Corfu and INTERKULTUR, and by the islanders. Also the Closing, when the best choirs of the competition will be crowned, as well as some of the Friendship Concerts will take place here in the open air.

For the competitions in ten different categories the Municipal Theater will open its doors. The Municipal Theatre of Corfu was built only in 1997 and is one of the youngest and most modern theaters across Greece. In addition to numerous musical and theater productions the annual Audiovisual Art Festival was also held here, initiated by the Ionian University, another venue of the Choir Festival.

The Friendship Concerts in St. George Temple will also be an important part in the series of unforgettable encounters in Corfu. The church in the Old Fortress – Corfu has a new and an old fortress – looks like a traditional Greek temple and offers a wonderful historic setting to the choirs and their audience. It’s a place that makes the International Festival and Choir Competition Corfu 2016 a unique experience.
