The international choral festival Canta al mar traditionally takes place in Calella and Barcelona in the last week of October each year. While in recent years (including 2019) the event happens from Wednesday to Sunday with a great closing event on Saturday evening, this will change with the 9th edition of the event: Canta al mar – Festival Coral Internacional 2020 will invite choirs from all over the world to join the event at the Spanish coast from Thursday, October 22 to Monday, October 26.

The final evening with the “Fiesta de la amistad” – good “paella y sangría” for everyone and a huge choir party – will then take place on Sunday evening; Monday will be departure day for the international participants.

The new event dates are especially of interest for local choirs from Calella/Barcelona and its surroundings. It makes it possible for them to be part of the event from Friday to Sunday over the weekend without needing an additional holiday, and nevertheless make the full event experience including competitions and Friendship Concerts, the Calella Sings event and the final “Fiesta de la amistad”.

After the experiences with the International Choir Competition Maastricht this year, which already took place from Thursday to Monday and was well received by local choirs, INTERKULTUR decided to offer this opportunity at more of its event in order to give local choral communities from the hosting countries the chance to be more involved.
