Let the festival begin!
The first concerts get Corfu in the mood for the festival
The 1st Corfu International Festival and Choir Competition has begun. Many choirs have already arrived in Corfu, have registered in the festival office and picked up their choir bags. And also the first concert with choirs from the host country has already faded away. Despite poor weather forecasts, the Greek choirs "Politistikos Perivallontikos Syllogos Anemomylou" and "Kerkyraiki Kantada Mandolinata" have braved the rain and given their first well-attended serenade at the "Open Stage" at M. Theotoki Square (San Giacomo).
Here are some first impressions:
Tonight at 7 p.m. we will be able to enjoy Greek choral music. Five choirs from Corfu and the Greek mainland will present the variety of choral music on stage at the Ionian Academy. Of course, many songs will be heard in the national language. One of the choirs is the Children's Choir "Gerasimos Lavranos" from the Cultural Society of Kanalia. The choir was only founded in May 2016 and will gain its first festival experiences this evening. We wish you a lot of fun!
In honor of the Greek composer and Artistic Honorary President of INTERKULTUR, Mikis Theodorakis, the city of Corfu invites to a great "Theodorakis Concert" at 9 p.m. in the Municipal Theater Corfu. Two local choirs and one orchestra will perform the oratorio "Axion esti".
