Australia goes to Vietnam

Southland is a group of friends who first came together in 2012 to combine the joy of singing with the pleasures of overseas travel. The choir is based in New South Wales, with choristers travelling up to 150km to rehearse together monthly in the period before a concert or tour.

For 2017 Southland has decided to join the 5th Vietnam International Choir Competition to be held in Hoi An from June 7–11. It is the first choir that has registered for this event!

In 2015 Southland Choir already joined the INTERKULTUR choir festival Canta al mar in Calella, Spain and achieved a Silver Diploma.

The Southland Choir members come from a wide range of musical backgrounds and include those who just love to sing as well as professional musicians, solo singers and instrumentalists. The musical director is Lesley Challender, a musician and music teacher. The choir’s repertoire includes contemporary Australian choral composers.

According to the choir’s experience European audiences really enjoy the Australian repertoire and the friendly Aussie style. They are now looking forward to find out more about the Asian audience at the Hoi An competition in 2017.
