Learning from international choral skills

Pedagocial education at the World Choir Games

World Choir Games 2016

The World Choir Games 2016 gather the very best of international choral expertise at one place, in the Olympic city Sochi. From July 13 - 15 there will be two daily workshops presented by members of the international jury. They are open to choirs and interested individual singers to help them take the best benefit from their World Choir Games experience.

For example on July 14 Felix Nassi from the African state of Benin will teach choirs the African way of choral singing, which is typically a combination of singing and dancing: "Some African dances and music imitate the movements and the noise produced by domestic and wild animals. In this workshop you will learn five short songs and dance movements which illustrate the aforementioned imitations of the animals in African singing tradition."

Another promising workshop will be Matthew Wright’s session “Sing from your soul!” on July 15. Wright is the conductor of Barnsley Youth Choir from Great Britain, winner of the Grand Prix of Nations 2015, which is famous for its emotional and touching way to perform. In the announcement of this workshop it is said: “Popular music is often thought of as easy to sing. It actually presents significant challenges to choirs - rhythmical, technical and emotional. This practical and entertaining workshop will explore some of these challenges, focus on how to communicate effectively with audiences and discuss the importance of an emotional connection with the music we perform.”

Information about all workshops taking place from July 13 - 15 can be found in the official Event Guide to be downloaded at www.wcg2016.com. Tickets can be purchased for 300 Ruble at the respective venue one hour prior to the start.
