On the occasion of the 75th birthday of Morten Lauridsen, Honorary Artistic President of INTERKULTUR, the Deutsche Grammophon has released a new CD with the enigmatic title „Light Eternal - The Choral Music of Morten Lauridsen“. It contains world famous works such as „O Magnum Mysterium“ and „Lux Aeterna“ accompanied by the Italian orchestra „I Virtuosi Italiani“, but also new recordings which have not been released until now. The Saarländischer Rundfunk (SR) names Lauridsen as one of the icons of the contemporary choral scene, whereas another regional broadcasting station, the Bayrischer Rundfunk (BR) thinks of him as a true idol and the worldwide choral scene would not possess many of these characters.

Morten Lauridsen belongs to those choral composers nowadays, whose works are consistently being sung and performed all over the world. „Famous for his ascetic choral sound, his floating dissonance frictions and the peace which his compositions reflect,“ (SR), his music convinced during his tour in Germany in October during all performances, carried by the acoustics of the different churches such as the Augustinerkirche in Würzburg, St. Michaeliskirche in Hamburg and the Thomaskirche in Leipzig.

The tour was accompanied by the Chamber Choir of Europe, conducted by Nicol Matt, and broadcasted by all major national radio stations. The Südwestrundfunk (SWR) will broadcast the complete Lauridsen concert on December 13, 2019 during its program „Mittagskonzert“, which was recorded during the concert series „Herbstliche Musiktage“ in Bad Urach. His „Colorful soul harmonies“ (Schwäbische Zeitung Bad Urach) inspired not only a diverse audience during different concerts and workshops, but also Lauridsen beamed with delight: „This is what I want to do in the future: To share my music with music-loving people“.

To get in physical contact with his numerous enthralled fans, to make music together and to engage in the lyrics were the main aspects of the workshop series which represented the supporting program of the concert tour. His emotional compositions never fail to touch his listeners. „This is also due to the surrounding, where I create my music“, the composer mentioned to his expectant audience. Lauridsen composed on a remote Pacific island in a small hut without running water or electricity. His first works were created on an old 50 Dollar piano surrounded by nature and silence. His compositions reflect peace and harmony and promise a perfect work of art: Light Eternal.
