Professor Zheng Xiaoying has made popularizing the symphony her life's work, true to her motto "To give music to the public". She is the first female orchestra conductor in China. In 1962, she was the first Chinese conductor to stand on the podium of a foreign opera house, the Moscow National Theatre. She was artistic director and chief conductor of the Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra, chief conductor of the Chinese National Opera, dean of the choral conducting department at the Central Chinese Music Conservatory and musical director of the "Women’s Philharmonic Orchestra".

Numerous national and international awards, such as the award of the national Chinese opera house "Honorary Conductor for Life" or the French Medal of Honour for Literature and Art, testify to her outstanding work. She is not only one of the most experienced Chinese professors in conducting, but also an enthusiastic music social activist.

As artistic director she proved to be a strong supporter of INTERKULTUR at the 4th and 6th World Choir Games in Xiamen (2006) and Shaoxing (2010). Zheng Xiaoying was awarded the title of Honorary Artistic President for her long and extensive commitment. INTERKULTUR would like to thank Mrs. Zheng for the great contribution she has made to the World Choir Games and the World Choir Council, and in particular for popularizing choral music in China and all over the world.

In her greeting to the participants of the World Choir Games 2016 in Sochi, Russia, Zheng appealed: "Pass on the profound and colorful heartfelt wishes of people from all over the world through singing. Gather with joy to step up for world peace and harmony."

INTERKULTUR President Günter Titsch, also on behalf of the World Choir Council, wishes Professor Zheng Xiaoying all the best for today's anniversary and the following years!
