INTERKULTUR mourns the loss of Prof. Herbert Wild
A longtime friend and companion passed away
It is with deep sadness that INTERKULTUR has learned of the passing of our longtime friend and companion, Government Councillor Prof. Herbert Wild, who passed away on his 92nd birthday in Vienna, Austria.
Herbert Wild was a significant figure at INTERKULTUR, serving as one of our most active and articulate advisors for international choir competitions. Since the 1990s, his extensive knowledge of the global music and choral scene, combined with his insight into innovative ideas for international events, made him an invaluable advisor and steadfast supporter. His legacy is intricately woven into the history of INTERKULTUR.
As an ambassador for INTERKULTUR's choral music initiatives—including the Choir Olympics, World Choir Games, and World Choir Council—Herbert Wild promoted the mission of uniting people through the joy of singing and celebrating the rich diversity of choral music worldwide. His efforts during the preparations for the first World Choir Olympics in Linz in 2000 were instrumental, opening many doors and significantly contributing to the event's success. Through his strong commitment, he significantly contributed to the development and success of the largest international choir competition in the world, known today as the Choir Olympics, which has thrived for the past 25 years.
Herbert Wild embodied a culturally enriched life, fostering better understanding among people, advocating for peace, and striving for a brighter future. His optimism, cheerfulness, and sociability are cherished memories, alongside his profound musical and political wisdom, which benefited us all. Our numerous personal encounters were marked by deep friendship and mutual respect.
Herbert Wild’s passing is a significant loss not only for INTERKULTUR but also for the entire Austrian music and choral community. Our heartfelt condolences go to his family, especially his wife Traute.
We mourn the loss of a dear friend and honor the memory of an extraordinary individual who enriched our lives and our organization immensely.
