When friends come together and the music begins…

SING FOR GOLD opens in Calella and the international friendship is felt everywhere

SING FOR GOLD

The charming seaside city Calella at the Costa de Barcelona has turned into a meeting point for international choir singers again and their sounds will be sounding on all corners during the upcoming days. SING FOR GOLD - The World Choral Cup has finally openend.

Yesterday’s opening day marked a beautiful prelude already: 36 participating choirs from 24 nations paraded through the town’s narrow streets, waved their flags, sang their very own songs and obviously enjoyed to showcase themselves to Calella residents and visitors.

Official Welcome of SING FOR GOLD participants

The parade ended in the beautiful park Pati de l'Òs with a panoramic view over the rooftops of the city and the official welcome of all choirs and nations. The participants and guests could then enjoy a first foretaste of what to expect in the upcoming days when choirs from Bolivia, South Korea, and Denmark entered the stage for the first choir performances of this event.

There were also some really nice items on the program of the Official Opening that brought choirs closer together and gave them a lot of fun: For example, they learned the traditional Catalonian dance, the Sardana from professional dancers or as a joint conclusion they sung together the festival’s hymn “Amigos para Siempre” together with Artistic Director Albert Deprius as a soloist.

SING FOR GOLD Opening Concert

In the evening, the official Opening Concert happened in the church Santa Maria i Sant Nicolau right in the middle of Calella. Choirs from Israel, South Korea, Denmark, Slovenia and South Africa presented their music and even received standing ovations by the audience. All choirs cheered for each other, celebrated together and immersed the whole church in a wonderful, friendly atmosphere of the nations – it was like a wonderful promise for the days to come.

Today the first choirs will compete in both Calella and Barcelona in the different competition categories and do their best to qualify for the final competition of the best choirs that will sing for the WORLD CHORAL CUP on Saturday afternoon (October 15).
