Competition results of the 9th Isola del Sole

22 choirs from 16 nations entered the stages of Grado,Italy during the 9th edition of the Isola del Sole Choir Competition & Festival, but one choir stood out by becoming category winner of Male Choirs and Sacred Choral Music, winner of the Grand Prize competition and getting the Conductor’s Prize as well as an INTERKULTUR Scholarship for the International Conductor’s Seminar in Wernigerode, Germany: Rebecka Gustafsson and the Västgöta Nations Manskör Korgossarna from Sweden will return home as the event’s most successful choir and Grado would be looking forward to welcome them back in order to defend their titles.

Another two choirs received special prizes by the jury due to their outstanding performances: The URCSA - Light of Hope from South Africa with their conductors Sidney Masethle & Mbuso Ndlovu did not only win the category Mixed Choirs - Level of difficulty II but were furthermore rewarded for the authenticity of their folklore program. The category winners of Youth Choirs of equal voices, Českobudějovický dětský pěvecký sbor Canzonetta from the Czech Republic with Petra Nová, received in addition the Orlando Dipiazza Special Prize for the didactical efficiency of their program and their pedagogical engagement.

The Northern choral community brought home another gold with the Kammerkoret Musica under Filipe Carvalheiro from Denmark who were announced Category Winner of Mixed Choirs - Level of difficulty I. And the Karangturi Choir from Indonesia with Petrus Wahyu also had two good reasons to be pleased: They scored two category wins in Folklore and Children’s Choirs. And Indonesia cheered again when the category winner of Youth Choirs of mixed voices was called on stage: The Fabavossa Youth Choir with Amillio Fahlevi from Indonesia. Altogether the jury awarded 1 Bronze Diploma, 10 Silver and 19 Golden Diplomas.
