VOICES FOR PEACE

All good things come in threes – and so INTERKULTUR is pleased to celebrate the 3rd edition of its Voices for Peace choir festival from May 1-5, 2019 in Perugia and Assisi (Italy). Together with the city of Assisi the cathedrals, churches, museum and university premises of both historic towns will host 17 choirs from 11 countries for a colorful celebration of choral music.

On Wednesday, May 1, the mass “Pacem in Terris” at Assisi’s Cattedrale di San Rufino at 18:00 acts as the Opening Ceremony of Voices for Peace 2019. This opening service is held with the cooperation of the “Cappella Musicale della Cattedrale di San Rufino” and all participating groups – a good opportunity to get a first glance of the different choirs from around the world.

On Thursday, May 2, Perugia’s Museo Archeologico Nazionale dell’Umbria (MANU) presents the first concert with participating choirs such as the Children's Choir Blue Bird of E. Gilels Children's Music School (Russia) and the Madchenscola Gymme Meran (Italy) at 11:00. At 16:30 the competitions start at the Università per Stranieri / Aula Magna with Adult Choirs of mixed and female voices and is continued at 17:00 with Youth Choirs of equal voices. At the same venue singers from three nations, present their choral skill on stage at 18:00 for guests, choral music lovers, fellow singers and locals alike. And all those who like to have a second helping of international choral music are invited to come to Chiesa di Sant’Antonio Abate in Perugia at 21:00 and indulge in a concert with choirs from Italy, Switzerland and Slovenia.

On Friday, May 3, Perugia welcomes guests of the popular Folklore competition at the Università per Stranieri / Aula Magna at 10:30 presenting traditional songs from South Tyrol, the Aegean Islands, Finland, China and many more. At 14:00 the competition section continues with Children’s Choirs and at 15:30 Youth Choirs of mixed voices will present their repertoire including songs by Claudio Monteverdi, Mia Makaroff and Eric Whitacre to jury and audience.

The last competition of Voices for Peace rings in Saturday, May 4, in Perugia at the Chiesa di Sant’Antonio Abate at 09:30 h, when international Sacred Music will resound in this place of worship. At 16:00 the Basilica di San Domenico in Perugia celebrates the choral community with a grand Closing concert and a joyful Awards Ceremony, where all participating ensembles will be honored for their hard-earned achievements - see you again next year, hopefully!
