German Choir Championship 2021: A musical sign of confidence!

No live concerts in Koblenz on Nov 27, but a streaming concert with the ensemble amarcord from Leipzig

Deutsche Chormeisterschaft

It was the event that was to celebrate the return of German choirs to live stages after a long period of pandemic-induced silence: The German Choir Championship - Open Stage. 21 choirs from all over Germany had registered for this, had been preparing their performance for weeks and were looking forward to performing in the churches of the city of Koblenz, singing in front of an audience and finally meeting each other in person again.

Due to the current situation and the corresponding risks, accompanied by current recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute, INTERKULTUR and the city of Koblenz, in agreement with the affected choirs, have decided not to hold the planned choir concerts on November 27 in Koblenz, in order not to risk the health of all participants.

Nevertheless, the coming weekend in Koblenz will not simply pass in silence!

INTERKULTUR President Günter Titsch: "I would like to thank the numerous choirs from all over Germany who had registered for the Deutsche Chormeisterschaft – Offene Bühne this year and were looking forward to a musical Advent weekend of mutual singing in Koblenz together with us. Despite the current painful circumstances, however, we want to take a look into the future in a positive way and make sure that this year will be a prelude to the first German Choir Championship to take place in October 2022 in Koblenz under regular conditions!"

For this reason, there will be a streaming concert from the Basilica of St. Kastor with a world-leading and renowned vocal ensemble on Friday, November 26 at 20:00h: amarcord from Leipzig will perform a prelude concert to the first German Choir Championship 2022. This will be streamed online here as well as broadcast live via the Offener Kanal Koblenz:
