Choral celebration in Maastricht 2019
A new destination joins INTERKULTUR’s event calendar
The INTERKULTUR choral year 2019 will start with a premiere: From February 7-11, 2019 the International Choir Competition Maastricht will be a brandnew destination for choir singers.
In cooperation with the Maastricht Convention Bureau INTERKULTUR will organize an international choir competition in Netherlands for the first time and invites choirs from all corners of the world to sing and explore Maastricht, one of the country’s oldest cities.
The International Choir Competition Maastricht 2019 will get in line with the international choral events INTERKULTUR has been organizing since nearly 30 years. Amateur choirs from all over the world are invited to join the competition in various categories ranging from Mixed, Male and Female Choirs to Sacred Choral Music and Pop, and at the same time experience the vibrant cultural life in the host city.
INTERKULTUR President Günter Titsch: “We’re very happy to fill another white spot on the map of our international choral events. Organizing a choir competition in our neighboring country Netherlands has always been our great wish and we’re happy to have found strong partners in the city of Maastricht.”

Due to its location at the crossroads of Belgium and Germany and its international student population, Maastricht is often considered to be the heart of Europe. Maastricht’s hospitable characteristics, its linguistic diversity will make sure that the participants will feel at home.”
The city further provides a great infrastructure to host international guests and offers many fantastic sights and possible venues for a choir competition, such as the Maastricht Exhibition & Congress Centre (MECC), the Bonnefanten Museum, the Basilica of our Lady and the Dominican Church, which houses a book store, to name but a few.
