“More culture than agriculture!”

Veterinarians on their way to the World Choir Games 2018

World Choir Games 2018

Looking at the Onderstepoort Community Choir’s photo gives you a déjà vu? But this is no show element, this is the choir’s workwear – and performing with their workwear on stage is only one feature that makes the Onderstepoort Community Choir quite unique:

First founded in 2010 by Aileen Pyper, the current choir consists of singers of veterinary and veterinary nursing undergraduates to postgraduates, lecturers and researchers and even the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the University of Pretoria. Pyper saw a need for people from anywhere in the Veterinary faculty to come together to form bonds and make beautiful music. Thus she enlisted the help of Professor D. Holm and Charlotte Botha as conductor and so the choir found its place at the Onderstepoort campus. Flash forward to 2017 the choir has grown substantially and was introduced into the UP Arts circle in 2016.

Their next aim is their participation in the World Choir Games 2018 in Tshwane, South Africa. As the choir mentions on Facebook:” This is a brilliant opportunity to be involved in building a legacy at Onderstepoort and showing everyone else that we have more culture than just Agriculture.”
