Flanders - a treasure of culture, history and joie de vivre

The host region of the World Choir Games 2020 has many things to discover

World Choir Games 2020

Flanders will be the host region for the 11th World Choir Games 2020. For the first time, there will be two host cities – Antwerp and Ghent – welcoming choirs from all over the world for concerts, competitions and special highlight events.

Antwerp (“The Diamond City”) looks great, especially because of its fantastic Art Nouveau architecture. Its Central Station is among the most beautiful train stations in the world. At the same time Ghent (“the proud city”) is a wonderful Flemish jewel, especially through countless bridges spanning the two rivers that wind themselves through the city. The true joy of the town is to be found whiling away an afternoon in an outdoor café…

But Flanders has much more to discover apart from the wonderful host cities and the Belgian capital Brussels, which is famous around the world as administrative center of the European Union:

Listed on UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Bruges has the best-preserved example of a medieval city center, with its bell tower leaving over the wide open market. With the center closed off to cars, all the stunning beauty and culture of this unforgettable city can be easily explored on foot, although a boat ride along the quiet canals is something not to be missed.

Leuven is an intimate city; any spot can be easily reached on foot or by bicycle. Therefore it’s a fantastic place to take a day off during the World Choir Games for strolling around and discovering the beauty of Flanders.
Being the home of one of Europe’s oldest university founded in 1425, Leuven is a young city full of student life and at the same time a place full of history. Leuven is also Belgium’s reigning brewing capital – the headquarters of Inbev, the second largest brewery in the world. Centuries of Flemish tradition and craftsmanship lie behind Leuven’s premium brews.

Mechelen is a city for all ages. A small and picturesque city that is big on charm and history, thriving with quaint shops, car-free areas and pleasant little squares. The grace of centuries-old palaces and majestic churches appeals to everyone. There are no less than 336 listed buildings and monuments, including eight gothic and baroque churches from the 14th-17th century.

Discover Flanders, a treasure of culture, history and joie de vivre in the heart of Europe. The World Choir Games 2020 are waiting for you with a huge celebration of singing and choral music!

The registration process for the event will start on March 1, 2019. Stay tuned!
