British choral tradition in Sweden

English choir joins the 4th European Choir Games 2019

European Choir Games 2019

England and Sweden share a special tradition that dates back to centuries: No, it is not Robin Hood, although Great Britain is home country of this legend of Sherwood, and Sweden features a unique tax called the „Robin Hood tax“ which equalizes tax revenue discrepancies among municipalities. The true shared fervor of both nations is choral singing!

So it’s a great pleasure for the city of Gothenburg, Sweden, to especially welcome the distinguished Farnham Youth Choir from England to the Grand Prix of Nations Gothenburg 2019 & 4th European Choir Games from August 3 - 10, 2019: The 2015 European Champion in Category “Children’s Choirs”!

The Farnham Youth Choir was founded in 1984 by David and Gillian Victor-Smith under whom the choir has won a number of national and international competitions. Today the singers perform under the direction of Joanna Tomlinson and have developed into one of the UK’s leading youth choirs. The group offers exceptional performance opportunities of sacred and secular music covering many different styles and undertakes annual tours in the UK or abroad and has performed in many prestigious venues in London such as Royal Festival Hall or the Royal Albert Hall. In addition, it regularly commissions new music and arrangements and has recorded more than a dozen CDs.

The Farnham Youth Choir is a regular guest at INTERKULTUR events: They participated in the World Choir Games 2006 in China, the World Choir Games 2012 in the USA and the European Choir Games 2015 in Germany. In Gothenburg the singers will take on the special challenge of an international choir competition again and try to reach the top in the competition again.

More details about the event are available at the official website or at Facebook! Registration for interested choirs is still open until December 10, 2018.
