Third participation for Romanian choir in Sweden 2019

European Choir Games 2019

The European Choir Games celebrate their 4th anniversary from August 03-10, 2019 in Gothenburg, Sweden - and mark the 3rd participation of the choir ”Corala 'Ciprian Porumbescu'” in this festival series already. Magdeburg (2015) and Riga (2017) have hosted this ensemble before, which already brought home several Gold and Silver Medals and Diplomas from past INTERKULTUR events. Now they go on stage for the third time at a European Choir Games event.

The Corala "Ciprian Porumbescu” from Suceava, the former capital of the Princedom Moldau, belongs to the most prestigious choirs of Romania. The choir consists of girls who study at the National College „Ștefan cel Mare” and continues with the activity of the choir founded in 1865 by the renowned Romanian composers, Ciprian Porumbescu, a representative of the Romantic movement, and Stefan Nosievici. The works of the two founders have become part of the national Romanian heritage and contributed to the spiritual upheaval of the people, as their music was often performed not only for the large public but was also heard in numerous parish churches.

The repertoire of the choir consists of a wide range of musical works, including classical pieces, church and liturgical works, opera fragments, chants or secular songs. Since thirteen years now the choir is conducted by Lucian Tablan Popescu and under his guidance the singers have achieved numerous prizes and medals at national and international song contests.
