According to the Motto "Welcome in Germany – Music makes home" the Day of Music will take place from June 17-19, 2016 in Germany. Already for the 8th time the German Music Council (Deutscher Musikrat) calls on German musicians to set a sign for the protection and promotion of cultural diversity in Germany. This year’s motto puts the issue of how culture can contribute to a peaceful coexistence of different cultures in the focus of political and medial public.

Prof. Martin Maria Krüger, President of the German Music Council mentioned: "Music as universal language plays a central role in making similarities and differences clear and promoting the pleasure of an exchange between different cultures. The German Music Council calls for understanding the German Day of Music as joint platform for an intercultural dialogue and as a chance for a creative togetherness."

The Day of Music aims to make the great importance and the high value of music in Germany very clear in terms of cultural, educational and social policy. Therefore choirs, orchestras and music schools, opera houses and many other institutions will present the diversity and the quality of the local musical culture.

Also the Chorfest Watzenborn-Steinberg will celebrate the Day of Music this weekend: from June 17-19, 46 national and three international choirs will gather in the small "singing city" Pohlheim for sharing their love of choral music with each other.
