Modern arrangements for Christmas
INTERKULTUR brings December to sound
Day three of our December songs. It’s time for a christmassy sound in the style of Jazz. The young singers of the choir "VOICES – Landesjugendchor Vorarlberg" from the beautiful Austria presented an arrangement of a well-known German-speaking Christmas carol during a concert last year: "Joseph, lieber Joseph mein" (engl. Joseph, my dear Joseph). With jazz elements, such as syncopated-accentuated rhythms, scat vocals and free improvisation, the young choir gives the song a modern and dynamic expression.
The carol is constructed as antiphony between Maria, Joseph and a choir and can be seen cradle song for the new born child. Both melody and text date from the Middle Ages.
Do you have an idea for a Christmas carol from your country? Then send it with your personal wish for the next year to online(at)interkultur.com
And our wish for the upcoming year: Time to experience the musical language in all their facets.
