Latest news

For the third time INTERKULTUR and hänssler CLASSIC presented the prestigious hänssler-INTERKULTUR CD Award as a special prize to the best choir of the World Choir Games 2016.

Out of all nominees of the World Choir Games 2016 in Sochi only one choir received the prize – the possibility to record a CD. The lucky prizewinner, the Stellenbosch University Choir from South Africa, was awarded the special prize during the Awards Ceremony yesterday. The choir achieved the Champions title in three different categories: “Spiritual”, “Musica Contemporea” and “Musica Sacra a cappella”.

The jurors were the Artistic Director of the World Choir Games Prof. Dr. Ralf Eisenbeiß, conductor and producer Nicol Matt, and head of the world-famous label hänssler CLASSIC Günter Hänssler.

The hänssler CLASSIC label has an average of 50-60 releases annually and ranks among the most successful independent labels in the world of classical music. There are 800 releases on CDs, SACDs and DVDs on the world market today. Along with a traditional and widely known repertoire, the program includes a host of musical discoveries and world premieres. The label is committed to supporting and discovering young talented artists.

Nicol Matt (Germany) is known across the globe not only because of releases of 100 outstanding CDs with recordings of complex vocal, orchestral and instrumental music pieces, but also because of his work as the conductor of the professional ensemble Chamber Choir of Europe. His CD recordings meet the highest quality standards; his well-deserved recognition in international specialized publications is confirmed by numerous awards.
