The Men’s Quintet „Handvoll“

Hessian dialect and sacred choral music at the national competition

Chorfest Watzenborn-Steinberg

The Male Quintet "Handvoll" was founded in 2005 out of the Men’s Choir of the choral association "Sängerlust" 1881 Oppenrod E.V. near Gießen.

In the early beginnings the repertoire consisted of simple serenades mostly based on the classical repertoire for Men’s Choirs. After a few years of rehearsing and performing the quintet took also pleasure in modern pop arrangements and demanding literature of sacred music. Performing such a varied program the ensemble took part in some national choral competitions, among others at the "Hessisches Chorfestival" (Hessian Choir Festival).

The five men in their prime don’t want to specify their repertoire neither for one style or epoch nor for a distribution of voices within the ensemble! They are dedicatedly rehearsing and optimizing the distribution of voices of each arrangement. Since September 2014 the Quintet has been performing in the following cast: Michael Blöcher, Wilfried Jung, Martin Kauer, Lutz Ott and Matthias Schulze (leader).

Through its constant striving for a high level of quality the Quintet is now well-known across the local borders and regularly a popular guest at official and private concerts. Also during the Chorfest Watzenborn-Steinberg, to be held from June 17-19, 2016 in Pohlheim (Hesse), the audience as well as the jury can look forward to a varied competition program.
