Choir competition ends with an emotional Awards Ceremony

Franz Schubert Choir Competition

From May 30 to June 3 a total of 18 choirs from 12 nations met in Vienna to compete in the 31st Franz Schubert Choir Competition and revel a celebration of international choral music at the 4th Sing’n’Joy Vienna choir festival. The whole event was well-received by participants and visitors. Especially at the Opening Concert and final Awards Ceremony the Votivkirche was filled to capacity and the audience cheered to the performers on stage.

A highlight of the Opening Ceremony was the performance of the Sing'n'Joy Festival Choir consisting of Kammerkoret Ultima Thule (Norway), Coro Regina Coeli (Philippines), and Vocal Ensemble Fantazia (Russia). They presented Franz Schubert’s Mass No. 3 in B flat major (D324) – Kyrie and Gloria, conducted by Friedrich Lessky, member of the artistic committee.

The Awards Ceremony on June 3 marked the emotional highlight of the event. Especially Telkom University Choir from Indonesia and Coro Regina Coeli from the Philippines were overwhelmed by their success when they were announced Category Winners, being unable to blink back tears.

Children Choir Consonnace, conducted by Tatiana Chertishcheva achieved 25,79 points in the "Children's Choirs" category and was awarded the Franz Schubert Choir Prize 2018 for the best interpretation of an original work by Franz Schubert.

The highest score was achieved by Telkom University Choir from Indonesia, conducted by Aldo Randy Ginting. The group got 26.36 points in the "Sacred Choral Music" category – a really top-performing category in the competition featuring many excellent choirs.

Darling of audience during all festival days was Dan Hop Xuong Olympia from Vietnam, that impressed everybody with great colorful costumes and a sophisticated choreography.
