Singing, sun, beach and the sea

Scandinavian choirs love the festival on the Spanish Mediterranean coast

Canta al mar - Festival Coral Internacional

Already for the 5th time the International Choir Competition and & Festival "Canta al mar" in Calella/Barcelona, to be held from October 19-23, 2016, invites choirs from all over the world to sing and celebrate on the Costa del Maresme. The festival is very popular because of its perfect seaside location and its close proximity to the Catalonian metropolis Barcelona.

Especially choirs from the Scandinavian countries like Norway, Finland, Sweden and Denmark love to travel to the Southern part of Europe and to enjoy the Spanish autumn sun every year. Currently, 21 different choirs only from Scandinavia are already registered for this year’s competition. The "Kammerkoret Aventura" from Copenhagen/Denmark will come already for the second time to Calella in order to compete in the categories "Mixed Chamber Choirs" and "Sacred Choral Music".

The Catalonian coast also attracts numerous INTERKULTUR jurors. Our choral expert Mia Makaroff from Finland was in Calella in 2014 most recently as juror. This year she will enter the festival stage as conductor of "Vivace Chamber Choir" (Finland).

Also local choirs love to celebrate again and again the colorful festival of choral music with international groups. Since 2013 the children’s choir "Coral Juvenil Santa Maria Pineda del Mar" from the neighboring village Pina del mar took part in each INTERKULTUR event in Calella and is looking forward to welcome the choirs in their home town.

Interested choirs can register for the Canta al mar – Festival Coral Internacional until the end of May. All registration documents as well as information about the INTERKULTUR-event can be found here.
