Music and culture from all over the world at the Johannes Brahms Choir Festival 2019

Johannes Brahms Int. Choir Festival & Competition

Since 20 years already the city of Wernigerode is turning into the center of international choral music every two years by hosting the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition. This year a total of 46 choirs from 19 nations has registered, among them many children’s and youth choirs. They will travel from Europe, Africa, South America and Asia to Wernigerode in order to experience a colorful festival of international friendship, culture, and music.

This year young singers from Bolivia, Malaysia, Kenya, Sweden and the Faroe Islands will contribute to the festival showcasing their music and traditions. Also this year, the high number of different nations impressively shows that the choir festival in Wernigerode is famous for a of a top-class competition with colorful folklore and exciting concerts in the choral world.

Since the first event in 1999 Prof. Dr. Ralf Eisenbeiß (INTERKULTUR) acted as Artistic Director for the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival & Competition. In 2019 he will passes the Artistic Direction over to his colleague Peter Habermann from Wernigerode.

Ralf Eisenbeiß will stay connected with the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival & Competition. This year he will act as an adjudicator during the event and evaluate the choirs’ performances in the different categories. Also, INTERKULTUR keeps being responsible for the general organization of the event.

The 11th International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival & Competition will take place from July 3-7 in Wernigerode this year. Along with competitions in 12 different categories the event program includes the popular Folklore concert in front of Wernigerode’s historic town hall and the traditional charity concert with international partipants.
