Cheering was endless when finally at the Awards Ceremony of the 30th Int. Franz Schubert Choir Competition in Vienna the overall winner and winner of the Franz Schubert Choir Prize 2016 was announced.

Kammerkoret Bocca from Norway convinced the international jury with their performance in the Grand Prize Competition and received the Prize and 2000 € prize money beaming with joy.

Seven category winners from the competition performed once again in front of the jury at the concert. They sang two pieces each with had not been sung already in the competition before. So the audience listened to a varied program with folk songs from Russia, Philippines and Norway, for example as well as Spirituals, classic choral literature and sacred and secular choral works.

After the concert all results from the competitions were announced and 13 Golden and 8 Silver Diplomas were awarded to the participants. A list of results from all choirs and categories can be found here.

However, the concert for the Grand Prize didn’t mark the closing of the 3rd Sing’n’Joy Vienna event. Tomorrow the Sing Along Concert International will be the artistic highlight of the anniversary event in Vienna. Together with the Berlin Radio Choir and the Wiener Akademische Philharmonie roughly 900 participants will honor the patron of the choir competition and perform Franz Schubert’s Mass No. 6 in E-flat major.

Yesterday the rehearsals for the concert with conductor Simon Halsey have started and you can be anxious to listen to the result. The concert will happen on Sunday, May 8 at 6:00 pm in the Great Hall of Vienna Concert Hall. Follow the rehearsals on Facebook!
