Grand Opening Concert in Helsingborg

Starring: Voces8 (Great Britain)

The Helsingborgs Körfestival has officially been opened yesterday evening at the Stadsteater in Helsingborg. 20 choirs from 9 nations have come to celebrate a huge festival of choral music in Southern Sweden and yesterday’s opening concert was a great preview of what to expect during the next festival days.

Three excellent choirs from the host region – Helsingborgs Vokalensemble, One Nation Gospel Choir and Helsingborgs Konserthuskör – welcomed the international guests at the concert and proved that Helsingborg is a fantastic representative of brilliant choral music and thus a perfect host for this international choir festival.

Also Helsingborg Mayor Mats Sander in his welcome speech warmly welcomed the international singers and was delighted to have them in his city.

The Finish choir Sigynella represented the international participants on stage and performed a selection of wonderful Finish Folk songs.

A real highlight in the Opening Concert was the performance of the evening’s headliners, the British vocal ensemble VOCES8. Their brilliant singing was highly acclaimed by the audience. In the next two days they will perform two more concerts and held two workshops in the course of Helsingborgs Körfestival. More information about the detailed program can be found here.

The atmosphere in the concert hall in Helsingborgs Stadsteater culminated when it came to the Singing Together parts. Conducted by the Swedish choir director and jury member Bengt Ollén the audience and all choirs on stage performed together different Swedish songs. These amazing singing opportunities with all participants completed a wonderful opening concert of Helsingborgs Körfestival and made everybody looking forward to the upcoming festival days.
