2nd Sing'n'Joy Princeton- a choral home for the world
INTERKULTUR choir season 2019 continues in the United States
After the first successful edition of Sing'n'Joy Princeton 2017, the second INTERKULTUR event this year welcomes international choirs again to Princeton from February 14-18, 2019. 11 competition categories, workshops, Friendship Concerts as well as a Grand Prize Competition and a Special Concert represent the highlights of the event.
The Sing'n'Joy Festival Choir will also be present, performing Ēriks Ešenvalds “My Song” and John Rutters “One Voice” for choral music fans at Princeton as part of the Closing Concert. 12 participating choirs from three nations will come together at this prestigious destination to celebrate their common passion.
On Thursday, February 14, 2019, the choirs will arrive in Princeton and tune in for the upcoming event through rehearsals and Evaluation Performances. At 20:00 the opening event with choirs from the USA, Canada and other nations will take place in the Princeton High School Performing Arts Center.
On Friday, February 15, 2019, Shireen Abu-Khader's workshop "Hala - Songs of welcome, love night and dance from Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and Jordan" will offer all interested people an intriguing insight into the Arabic music culture from 15:00 h to 16:00 h at the PHS Performing Arts Center (TB Hall). Choir conductor Abu-Khader from Jordan will take you on a musical journey through the Levante region to discover the beauty of Levantine choral music, the complex rhythmic structures and the simple melodic phrasing and Arabic vocals. The following concert of the Westmister Kantorei at 19:30 h in the Princeton University Chapel "Lily Among Thorns" offers its listeners choral music at the highest level and makes you look forward to the upcoming performances of the competition choirs.
One of the most popular categories of the event will begin on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 11:00 h in the PHS Performing Arts Center: Choirs from China, Canada and the USA will meet in the Children's and Youth Choirs competition to determine the best of their category. Furthermore the Bristol Chapel opens its doors at 16:30 h for the category Mixed Choirs with Difficulty Level I and continues the event at 17:10 h with the category Sacred Choral Music. Almost at the same time, at 18:15 h in the PHS Performing Arts Center, the Mixed Youth Choirs will take part in the vocal competition. The eventful day ends at 20:00 h in Trinity Church with a multinational Friendship Concerts featuring performances of choirs from China, Canada and the United States.
On Sunday, February 17, 2019, at 14:00 h, the Friendship Concert at the United Princeton Methodist Church will set the tone for the evening's highlights: From 19:00 h, the PHS Performing Arts Center (TB Hall) will host the competition of the best choirs for the “Grand Prize Sing'n'Joy Princeton 2019”, the Award Ceremony and the Closing Ceremony.
